Biography

I have been gardening all my life. First at home on the farm, growing my own pumpkin garden (age 11) and then following the footsteps of my “English Country Gardener” Auntie Anne (Vales Greenhouses, Black Diamond). She got me hooked on growing things in her humid and earthy little ‘starter’ greenhouse, listening to CRC radio, and transplanting little seedlings on Easter Holidays.

35 years later, I now have a thirty five acre market garden and agri-tourism farm, grow plants in 13 greenhouses, and (I must be out of my gourd!) grow 7 acres of pumpkins in the Edmonton region at Bon Accord, Alberta. I love gardening, sharing the abundance and the art of growing, and am now the gardening columnist on CTV noon news, and CFCW radio.

And have 2 beautiful daughters age 9 and 11. I shouldn’t have time to garden but I make time anyway. Who needs sleep? And I am passionate about my kids and I want them to grow up in a garden so they can learn how to grow good food, learn to love and respect nature, or just play.
